Nothing to be done

I was at the opening night of Godot in London as a guest of Ian with whom I have worked over the years and who I count a mentor and friend. I promised him and Duncan Weldon , the West End producer with whom I have also worked with that this superb production would come to Brisbane. not just because it is remarkable and historic, not to mention, one of the best performances by great actor in a fine company but because Good Old Brizzy is no longer a branch office town but a city on the international scene. Alas it seems like the characters from the play we will still be waiting and nothing will be done.

"Nothing to be done" is a line from Godot, a play about some hope in a terrible and ruthless world of despair. Maybe that could be our catch cry for the destruction of the Regent but with a question mark added. It might amuse you in a bleak and ironic way that Sean Mathias has set his inspired production in a destroyed once beautiful classical theatre. So lets invite Sir Ian and his company to come perform the play here because we can provide the set, the ruin of the Regent as a reminder of the ignorance, greed and cultural vandalism of Brisbane awful visionaries.

Bille Brown's statement

Beautifully stated and accurately reflects the sentiments of many who care about not only Brisbane's architectural history but also its cultural standing nationally.

Hear hear!

Good on you, Bille. I wish the relevant decision makers in this piece of cultural vandalism were listening.
