The Regent's "D-day" is fast approaching. Please, even if you have already done so, send a letter to Anna Bligh (premier@ministerial.qld.gov.au), the building's owner (admin@ispt.net.au and dbrowning@ispt.net.au) and others (there's a full list of addresses here) saying something like: "Along with thousands of other Queenslanders, I do not believe the current plan to redevelop the Regent sufficiently protects this unique building. Any redevelopment should include the culturally significant Showcase cinema and ornate bar area. Premier, you have promised that a "cinema" will be included in the new office tower, however it will only be open on weekends and it seems that it will lack professional cinema-style projection and sound equipment. Also, I am extremely concerned that nobody will say how long it will remain open to the public, even on this very limited basis. Premier, it is not too late to ensure that the Regent truly lives again as a public venue for all Queenslanders to enjoy."

save the regent in Brisbane

I live in Sydney I wasnt here when they pulled the one down here I was still in New Zealand and they used to pull old and beautiful theatres down over there too. I am sick of the big companies coming in and tearing down beautiful old historic buildings. Dont put the office block in its place. put the building on the historical list and in Sydney there are too many huge offices and big shopping centres leave some history of Australia around leave th regent, Ann from Sydney

Even from NSW

I wish to support and argue that the Regent Theatre in QLD must be saved.
Such a beautiful building that hosts culture, and entertainment with every show that has been performed; i'm sure has touched the hearts of all viewers. An unforgettable memory is always made having just left a great show.
I't doesn't take alot to keep something that is already beautiful, maybe just a touch up.
If I had the choice of going to an Old Heritage Theatre that was going to make my experience to the theatre all the more enjoyable; or a new vamped theatre.....I know what i'd be choosing.
I feel proud to say that you have my support and I know many people will be feeling the same way I do.
Keep the arts alive, and realistically the theatre operating.

This is a terrible terrible loss. It must be stopped. Commercial realestate isn't even VIABLE right now during this economic climate. I predict THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of unused square metres of office space. Currently Queensland and Australia Wide, realestate agents can't even keep up with the printing demands of commercial space for lease. Why even make a ridiculous proposal along this line for this important site ? The developer is deluded. Deluded, not for wanting to remove the Regent, but that any proposal along this line is a waste of time. Residential appartments might get some sales, but really ? Office space ? If your architect has pandered to your requests and not enlightened you about the facts of building in 2010, then he/she is a fool.
