Did you receive a letter/email from Campbell Newman or Anna Bligh thanking you for bringing the Regent to their attention? If so, please reply along these lines:
Dear Lord Mayor, With so many people having already drawn this issue to your attention, do you think it may now be time for action? Will you support a public/private partnership to at least save the Showcase cinema and bar area, and perhaps even to restore the orginal Regent auditorium to give Brisbane a much-needed second large multipurpose auditorium?

Regent Theatre
Dear Lord Mayor... why is it you wish to pull down such an icon? Sydney has done such a thing and regretted it ever since. Our children of the future would love to visit the Regent to see many types of plays, dance etc and also just to look at the grandeur of this equisit building... I sincerely hope you will rethink your proposed actions,
sincerely yours,
The Regent Theatre

Dear Lord Mayor,
I feel it is just short sighted a creates a "common" culture of consumerism. We have so little in Australia and taking these "unique" old building away will not make Qsl a destination I'd choose to visit. The Regent would be a contributing reason of what I would like to visit & see. The arts opens our imagination & brings the community together in a way that nothing else does. I wouldn't come to visit a shopping mall, I already have many here. What I travel to see is historical & cultural icons.

Dear Lord Mayor,
On recently returning to Brisbane I was astounded and devastated to hear that our beloved Regent Theatre is to be demolished to be replaced by yet another characterless building.
Don't our political leaders ever learn?
Over the years many beautiful buildings have been destroyed thereby removing the very features that make Brisbane special. As a keen traveller the archtitecture is one of the drawcards of a country. I mean has Rome demolished its ancient ruins because they look a bit shabby or Egypt disposed of its famed pyramids because they're a bit weathered?
I realise the Regent may not be in the same category as the above but on numerous occasions I've seen visitors to our city taking photos of the beautiful Regent. I don't think they'd find an office block/carpark as photo worthy.

Dear Anna Bligh,
I am very saddened to hear that our beloved Regent Theatre is to be demolished!
Why?
Surely an alternative solution can be found if a carpark and offices is to take its place.
Brisbane has lost so many treasures over the years.
It is places like the Regent that add to the cultural capital of our city. I have seen backpackers visiting it taking photos of its gorgeous interior.
What is wrong with the leadership of Queensland that a much loved venue such as this has to be knocked down for yet another characterless ediface to be put in its place. Surely losing Her Majestys to the Myer Centre taught us a lesson. Another boring shopping place fulled with cheap eateries and chain retail outlets.
Having travelled extensively it is very apparent that many countries value their historic sites and interesting buildings. Visiting and viewing such places is one of the major drawcards from a traveller's perspective.
When will you politicians ever learn?
Concerned resident,
Marilyn Virag.
political "donations"
It seems the only way Anna Bligh will listen to ordinary people is if you make a $10,000 donation to the Labour Party. That way you are guaranteed the Ministers ear. Can't afford it? That's why she can't hear you! The developers can!
Donations
Yes I think all of brisbane knows what Anna Bligh is all about she couldn't care less about Brisbanes Heritage as long as she comes out the other end with a good retirement package, not so some of her constituants she's looking after number one she was taught well from two professionals before her, nothing will change for the Regent she has already signed the deal when was the last time she even went inside it. I wonder which developer has got the job???.

Why should you demolish such an artistic building? Future generations want it so they can have somthing of their heritage. hoping you will think twice.
