If you saw the segment on the Today show on Channel 9 and want to help save the Showcase cinema and other unlisted elements of the Regent theatre, here's what you can do: Write to the Premier, Infrastructure Minister, Lord Mayor, developers and owners of the building, saying there is a better way, where a public-private partnership can truly save this cultural icon for future generations. Addresses can be found here. Time is running out, so please act now!
PS: If you want to see more video of the Regent, this link will take you to the Bruce Paige Remembers story from the Brisbane Channel 9 news.
Update: Thanks to those who pointed out the link was wrong. It's now fixed.

An online petition is also being created, will post details as soon as it's up...

The Pagans are nearly upon us!!

They are rattling the Regent's gates... man the ramparts... prepare the boiling oil! The Regent owners, ISPT, are based in Melbourne and has no interest or feeling for Brisbane history, its heritage or cinema culture. Those concerned people from Melbourne please ring or visit ISPT and lodge your protest there.

This cannot happen twice to the Regent... first in 1978 now 2010. What about organising some more street protests - with plenty of advance notice and media publicity we might get the message through their thick sculls...

Never too late!

Keep an eye out for the Parliamentary E-Petition which should be online this week.

Save the regent

if you want the public to help you to save the regent as we don't want to see another historical icon in australia lost like you can you please make it simpler put on your site an on-line petition or get people to write to today show voicing their concern as there are too many people listed to e-mail and us public want to help but cant e-mail them all so please help us to help you. It is also hard to write an e-mail to someone like the mayor or qld premier when dont know what to write when all a person knows is that they dont want to lose the regent they want it to be saved. thanks look forward to seeing an easier way to get public involved.

The Regent

I saw the segment on TV this morning and was horrified to see this amazing historical building under threat. Australia already has so few of these fantastic examples of a past era, can't people in power think outside the square?
I live in Perth and have only been to Brisbane once, but the Regent would definitely be on my list of places to visit should I have the opportunity to revisit this gorgeous city. It would be such a great experience, and it would give me a lovely reminder of my childhood in NZ. Unfortunately the theatre of my memory is also gone under the lead ball. The perpetrators of that decision since published a full page apology to the people of Auckland - too late!
There was also the similar history of the Exhibition Hall in Melbourne. Examples of such good and sad decisions were presented on the program this morning. I really really hope and pray that this building is allowed to stay in its rightful place as part of our heritage for a long long time to come!

save the Regent Please

I want to register my disgust, with the Qld govt plan to not conserve one of the last remaining icons of Brisbane. This is criminal vandalism of Brisbane Heritage and it must stop.

Send those emails!

Get sending those emails everyone! It's really easy and the link to the addresses is very straightforward. If enough of us clog up the 'inboxes', perhaps someone will sit up and take notice. Time is running out - let's not let our Regent become another Cloudland or Ekka chairlift! Stand up and be counted!

Peta

Premier Anna Bligh and Campbell Newman = Vandals.

No further comment necessary except that they should be instantly dismissed for not acting in the interests of the people of their constituances.

Yes

They don't care they live in la la land and so do their opponents like that Hinchcliffe thing who pretends to be pro saving yet is all talk. All the things I have written have come back with rude replies, apathy, Yes Minister or it's too late. No balls this lot. And I won't be voting NLP either.
