What a line-up - a reminder that the big names of the arts and music industry are opposed to the current plans for the redevelopment of the Regent. Be there if you can!
And don't forget the Rally Behind the Regent on Saturday. Details below.

Thanks from Rock for The Regent

HUGE thanks from the Reclaim The Regent crew to all who attended and supported the recent Rock for The Regent events :-) We are still finalising figures as far as monetary gain goes.... what is of far greater importance at this stage is the publicity and positive vibe generated over the weekend: music speaks both to and from the heart in ways words cannot!!!!

Heartfelt support for The Regent campaign was expressed by the generous artists who donated their time to perform, each sharing stories of why The Regent is so important not only to them as individuals, but Brisbane's community culture and artistic future.

It truly was a weekend to remember, and further such events are being planned to continue raising public awareness of and support for the fight to reclaim The Regent as an entire venue for public use, rather than a grand red carpeted foyer into a soulless cement office tower.

All proceeds from Rock for The Regent are going to form a cultural heritage trust to help save and relaunch The Regent, with a future vision of saving other heritage venues, supporting cultural projects and growing to provide grassroots grants for our artists. Odyssey, Brisbane's very own non-profit rock 'n' roll & entertainment culture club (currently housed at The Globe Theatre), is in charge of establishing and managing this trust fund; in concordance with their ongoing demonstration of love and support for our community.

Brisbane so desperately needs another big theatre to nurture its cultural future and bring it onto a par with Sydney, Melbourne and the rest of the world when it comes to inner city entertainment. The Regent has the potential to fill this gap, thus we ultimately aim to reach compromise between the public, campaigners, government and developers that would see this grand old theatre preserved or restored in its entirety; even if it means having an office tower built above it!!!!

Please keep visiting the "Reclaim the Regent" Facebook fanpage for campaign and future rally/event updates; utilise the “All those against….” Facebook page as a forum for ideas; sign the e-petition (http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/view/EPetitions_QLD/CurrentEPetition.aspx?PetNum=1467&lIndex=-1)..... and above all, continue to spread the love and the word to drum up support for Brisbane's last bastion of cultural heritage- we are the people and we have a voice.... We want our Regent Theatre back!!!!

Yours in community spirit

I was there!

BOTH NIGHTS were AWESOME!

Petition

Will there be a petition to be signed to keep the regent? I think it's great to preserve such fantastic buildings rather than tearing them down for generic office towers. These buildings should be incorporated to add to the feel of the city

There is a petition. Details

Fund raising

Can I ask where the money is going to? These tickets are pricey.. are you fund raising for advertising the campaign? If the bands aren't being paid.. where are the funds going?

I have no idea about this;

I have no idea about this; you'd need to contact the Reclaim the Regent group or the All those against ... Facebook group. This website and the original Save the Regent group are not associated with the concerts but I support anything that brings attention to the impending fate of the Regent. For the record, this website is funded by me, andd the actions of the STR group have been funded from our own pockets by myself and a few other core members.

Well done Brett.

Just wanted to thank you for all your efforts. I too am interested to know where the money from the Rock For The Regent concerts is going to go.

As I said, it's best to ask

As I said, it's best to ask that question on the "All those against Regent Cinema in Brisbane being knocked down" Facebook group. Neither I nor the Save the Regent group was involved in organising the concerts.
