Original sin

The Showcase cinema at the Brisbane Regent was denied heritage listing because it was deemed to lack "original" features.

However, during the demolition it's been revealed that much of the fabric WAS original. The Brisbane Times has the story here.

Update: Audio of Brett Debritz talking to 612ABC's Kelly Higgins-Devine is here.

This revelation has made me sick to my stomach.

What disgusting pigs these developers are to lie about the regent's showcase cinema like that so they can get what they want.

Surely this must border on falsification of facts, and surely this is a potential legal case. Im just glad that that magnificant interior has been retained, although if the shingle inn is an example to go by, we probably wont ever see it again.

UNFRICKIN BELIEVABLE

Falsification of historical facts to justify demolition of a precious piece of our culture is a low act indeed - These liars should be made to be accountable. Who was the heritage consultant? Why haven't they been hauled over the hot coals? Which minister was responsible - I hope they're not standing for re-election.

blood boils

whenever i go to find the latest on the regent my blood is left boiling and i feel a cold chill

We need to turn this darkness into light

SPOT LIGHTS!

Thank god the plaster was saved. Now we need to rebuild the place! Who needs another tower?!

What a tragedy

Pieces and Pieces of regent. Little token bits. How incredibly sad. And now we know it was all REAL!

Still original stuff there

And what of the 1929 ORIGINAL Elizabeth St Regent facade??? It is about to be knocked down! STOP THIS NOW... the tower is supposedly not being built until tennants can be found - could be years if not months away. (Yet another hole in the ground - except that this was Brisbane's premier theatre and a heritage icon).

Replace this tower abomination with a new Regent theatre on the current cinema site. Then everyone will be happy and AB won't need that decoy (feel-good election spin) theatre on the old supreme court site...

This whole thing is the

HERITAGE FARCE OF THE CENTURY
