Musical theatre is thriving, according to this story in The Australian. Of course, most of the the action - and the money from the box office - is in Melbourne, where there are enough venues to stage several shows at once and the government is an enthusiastic supporter of the popular performing arts. Couldn't Queensland do with some of the action, Premier Bligh? Perhaps a restored Regent might just be the answer.

re: live and kicking
So why does Brisbane have to miss out on the action just because our politicians don't have any foresight. The Sydney Capitol is a great example of restoring an old theatre and integrating a new wing to cater for modern needs. The Melb Regent is another fine example of an old theatre brought back to life. The pitiful shortage of venues is letting $$ flow south.
